Pub 1: Written Law Vs. Moral Law

Question 1: Antigone wants to bury Polyneices because she believes it is the right thing to do. She then wants to “shout it out” because she doesn’t feel any shame for this action. Despite what Creon says, Antigone still does what she thinks is right. This shows how her worldviews would be so much different from everyone elses. Ismene had the same feeling towards burying her brother, but she would rather obey the law and avoid any trouble. This is where the importance of loyalty over obedience comes in. Antigone holds loyalty way above any other concept.
When Antigone says that she will be a criminal but a religious one, she basically means she will be breaking the law for her belief. Being religious doesn't necessarily mean that you worship a god or gods, You can just be very enthusiastic about something. When Antigone says this, she isn’t talking about the gods or her love for the gods, but her love and loyalty for her brother. This quote proves even further how she values loyalty as well.
The real, underlying conflict present here is not man vs man but concept vs concept. Loyalty vs obedience. That is the main question throughout the play too. Should you hold on to your values even if they are wrong? Antigone's decision to bury Polyneices was not right or wrong. In this scenario, wrong means what Creon said not to do. Antigone held onto her values and went along with burying her brother.
Creon could be compared to many dictators in today's world. One comparison can be Kim jong un. He brainwashes people into believing he is a god and that everything he does is right. Creon does the same by having Polyneices rot in the street and convincing everyone that is the right thing to do. And when he finds out that Polyneices has been buried, he demands the sentry to find the person or they will die. He is an unreasonable dictator.
